Melissa Kerbel has devoted her 30+ year career to working in the nonprofit sector. Her early years focused on project management, program development, community organization, and development. However, her passion to help nonprofits realize their dreams led her to pivot solely to development in 2008.
Kerbel’s first leadership position in fundraising was as the Development Director at the Jewish Educational Loan Fund in Atlanta, where she created and implemented a fundraising strategy that yielded an 87% increase in dollars raised during her tenure. She redefined Board policy to create a culture of philanthropy and bring fundraising front and center.
Since then, Kerbel has relocated back to her native New York, where she served as the Director of Development at United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) and the East Coast Director at American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (AFIPO). At USCJ, Kerbel oversaw a department of four and worked closely with the IT and Finance departments to create a new online giving platform
